Actually the way you’re dealing with this common trading issue will determine your fate as a trader. Depending on what you do with your winners and losers you will either end up being a profitable trader or a trader losing money. by Olivier on February 14, 2010 The focus of tonight’s posting will be on indicators. The debate among traders over advantages and disadvantages of using indicators will never cease. The purpose of this post is to offer you additional insight into my trading philosophy. The term trading philosophy is indeed the most appropriate one as there is no correct answer or absolute truth regarding the use of indicators. It all comes down to your personality and the way you see the markets. In my FAQ section I state I do not use any indicators. The only exception would be the occasional use of moving averages. My whole focus is on price and volume. This is a decision I made early on in my trading career. I used to plot Bollinger bands, OBV (On Balance Volume), plenty of moving averages and Fibonacci retracements on my charts. Then I tried to be even smarter and every now and then added MACD, Stochastics, RSI and ADX to the mix. You get the picture. I ended up with what I call ‘Spaghetti Charts’

Some people have showed interest in my book list and asked for advice what to read. So I’ve decided that every once in a while I will post quotes and excerpts of what I deem to be great books. That will give you an idea if buying that specific book might help you on your journey as a trader. It will also help you gauge where I’m coming from. They have a background as a fundamental trader and are discovering the benefits of applying or at least incorporating technical analysis into their trading decisions. The reasons are manifold. A few that come to mind are ‘fundamentally sound’ trades that didn’t work out, the desire to improve performance and the need to improve timing . I consider myself a technical trader but I do lots of research in the background which also makes me a full-time researcher. I wouldn’t say the non-technical stuff I look for fits the fundamental approach description. I typically am interested in analyzing a trading opportunity from the psychological perspective .
