Fr CLSA: Petrosea (PTRO IJ) signs new mining services contract for US$567m. Indika Energy’s (INDY IJ) listed subsidiary Petrosea (PTRO IJ) signed a contract with existing client Bayan Resources (BYAN IJ) for a 5 year mining services contract to Dec 2017 worth US$567m. The company also extended a contract with 50% owned subsidiary Santan Batubara for a US$399m contract. The company’s 4 main contracts (Bayan, ABN, Kideco and Santan Batubara) represent US$2b in backlog of mining services. Comment : In 2011 Petrosea’s services to Bayan represented US$44m in revenues, so the new contract represents a step up in the work that Petrosea will undertake by an average 2.5x per year. Petrosea recently reported FY11 results which were ahead of our estimates by 10%.

Fr CLSA:: Miners need to use biofuel by July 2012 . Miners will be required to mix 2% biofuel to their fuel consumption. The biofuel usage will add Rp50/liter cost to the user according to Ministry of Energy and Resources. The Indonesian Mining Association hopes that Pertamina will provide biofuel mixing services so it is ready for miners because the miners might not have the capability to mix themselves. Comment : Fuel costs represent 25% to 30% of cash costs for coal miners, so any forced increase is unhelpful. AKR Corporindo (AKRA IJ) is also a significant supplier of fuel to the mining sector, procuring fuel from Singapore where biofuel blends are readily available.

Kz- Amie noted that the Indo government is now heading for a plenary meeting on Friday 30th March. If the lawmakers can’t reach an agreement, then votes will have to be casted. Even under this scenario, Amie figured out that the coalition of ruling parties has sufficient seats to win the votes and increase fuel prices by 33% from Rp4,500 to Rp6,000, as planned.
Amie’s report is worth reading (pls see attached). She even talked to the protest organiser to get a complete picture of the protest plan (conclusion: protesters are “pragmatic” rather than ideological driven).
Beneficiaries of the fuel price hike? We think in long run, the fuel price increase means misallocation of resources is being corrected: GDP). This money will be better spent on infrastructure, which is the current focus of the government. Top picks in the infrastructure theme include Jasa Marga (JSMR IJ), United Tractors (UNTR IJ), cement companies (INTP, SMCB, and SMGR), and construction companies (WIKA, PTPP, and TOTL).
